Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece (Dr. Alveda King)is criticizing the Rev. Al Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson for politicizing the Trayvon Martin shooting and leveraging racial tensions to rile up Americans.

“I would believe that, by stirring up all of the emotions and reactions, I wanted to encourage them to remember the man that they say that they followed, to remember that his message was nonviolence and very loving,” King told The Daily Caller, referencing her late uncle. She added that she wanted to encourage Jackson and Sharpton “to talk about nonviolence and not to incite people with that race card that they are very good at playing.” read more: here

I’ve seen Ms King speak on several different occasions and admire her.  And she is the polar opposite of wild reactionaries like Jackson and Sharpton – to name only 2.  She’s calm, courteous, thoughtful and appears to be a kindhearted woman, who truly cares about people.  She also reflects Martin L Kings attitude much more clearly and positively than anything either Jackson or Shapton try to imitate.

And she’s speaking the truth.  What we’ve seen transpire the last several days, is pure unbridled emotions egged on by bitterness and hatred.  Clearly not anything that should be driving any individual much less any ‘community’ in
America, whether headed by blacks or others.

We can hope her words will make a difference and bring some relative calmness to many who are so hostile and irate over this incident.

Words matter. Words are important and can define who we are:  it’s unconscionable to  call this “murder” much less and “assassination”, as did the radical Mayor Nutter.  And what a shame we don’t hear such words from our dear lead Barack Obama, especially since he’s already willing inserted himself into this story.  He should be compelled as President, to something besides fulling the fire of racism.
